1. Who is responsible for your data
Learn Your Part AS, a company registered in Norway, is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at support@learnyourpart.com.
2. What we collect
Account details. Your name, email address and country, the password you choose (stored only as a secure hash, never in readable form), and an optional profile picture if you upload one.
Membership details. Which organizations you belong to, your role in them, and invitations sent to or from you.
Billing details. Your billing country, VAT/tax identifier if you provide one, billing address, and the invoices and payments on your account. Card details are handled by Stripe and are never stored on our servers.
Usage of the music. When you play a track we record which piece was played, how long was played, and when. We explain below why this matters.
Technical and security records. Log entries about significant actions on your account, which can include your IP address and browser identification, and a record of which version of our terms and privacy policy you accepted and when.
3. Why we use it, and on what legal basis
To provide the service (performance of a contract). Running your account, giving you access to the material, and supporting you when you ask for help.
To take payment and keep accounts (contract and legal obligation). Charging your subscription, issuing invoices, and meeting Norwegian bookkeeping and tax requirements.
To pay the people whose music you listen to (legal obligation and legitimate interest). We are required to report usage to collecting societies and to rights holders we license music from directly, so that royalties are distributed correctly. These reports are about the music — which works were played, for how long, how often — not about you personally.
To keep the service secure (legitimate interest). Detecting and investigating abuse, and keeping an audit record of important changes.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with parties that help us run the service, and only as far as needed:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Collecting societies and rights holders — usage reporting for royalties, as described above.
- Our accountants and hosting providers — bookkeeping and running the infrastructure.
- Administrators of an organization you join — they can see that you are a member, and your name and email address.
- Public authorities — where we are legally required to disclose information.
5. Where your data is kept
Your data is stored within the EU/EEA. Where a provider we use processes data outside the EU/EEA, that transfer is covered by the safeguards required under GDPR.
6. How long we keep it
Account and membership data is kept while your account is open. If you close your account we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must keep it longer — in particular invoices and accounting records, which Norwegian law requires us to retain for several years, and consent records, which we keep as evidence of what you agreed to.
7. Your rights
You have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data deleted where we have no continuing need or legal duty to keep it, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to receive your data in a portable form. You can also withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these, contact support@learnyourpart.com. If you believe we have handled your data wrongly, you may complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) or the equivalent authority where you live.
8. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies that are necessary for the service to work — keeping you signed in and protecting forms against cross-site request forgery. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Each version has a version number and date. If we make a material change, we will ask you to review and accept the new version, and we keep a record of which version you accepted and when.
